Many people lately are asking, why is there such a big push to be energy efficient? We all know we should be concerned but why? Well firstly, and most obviously, the more efficient you are, the better off you are financially, whether you lower your utility bill or help the building lower their operating costs. Secondly, and most importantly though, with being more energy efficient we help limit the peak demand of the province's energy use. Each day there are relatively small windows of time where residents of Ontario consume more energy than other times. To meet this 'peak' demand, the province must run power plants and keep them on stand-by to in order to generate and deliver the power when and where it is needed. If we lower the peak demand of the province, year after year, the amount of power-generating plants can be reduced. And that is good for Ontario's air, climate and cash-flow.
If we all make small adjustments in the way we use energy, our province’s collective carbon footprint could be reduced significantly! And as a bonus, while you're at it you save money too!
The electronics we purchase and the appliances we use can affect our energy consumption. Also, how we respond to seasonal changes and differences can make an impact on how we consume energy.
