my Power Plan

The idea struck me, not when a light came on, but when a light went out. One of the old incandescent bulbs in my living room ceiling light finally burned out. It struck me to replace the bulb with a compact fluorescent (CFL) bulb, and while I was at it, I maybe should replace a few more. Now is the right time to buy a bunch of them because many stores in Ontario are offering coupons and discounts on them care of the 2010 Fall Power Savings Event. Not only to CFL’s use about 75% less energy, they last 6-10 times longer than the old, incandescent bulbs in my unit. The bulbs are a little more expensive to begin with, but over their life, they could save me $30 in energy costs and a lot less climbing on a chair and stretching to get that bulb out.

I figured I’d start with the one that was burned out and then move on to the highest usage fixtures. I bought some in a nice soft white light for the bedroom and living room and something a little brighter for the bathroom and kitchen.   Eventually I’ll get to replacing the closet light and the one in the spare bedroom. Who knew a bright idea would start with a light going out!
