Now, as the leaves are turning colour, days are getting shorter and weather’s getting a little cooler, there are a many easy things that we can do to contribute to energy conservation. Try doing just a couple of these energy efficient practices to make a difference in your wallet and the environment:
· If you’re at home and feeling a little chilly, instead of putting the heat on, throw on a sweater or snuggle up with a blanket. Space heating and cooling accounts for more than 40% of most home and building energy bills!
· As it gets cooler, instead of closing your blinds during the day to keep the heat out, open them up and let that heat in! Just remember to close them at night to try and keep the warmth in.
· Is your unit drafty? Ask your Property Manager about applying caulking and weather-stripping around drafty doors and windows. Comprehensive draft pooling can reduce your energy bill by 20%!
· Make sure to arrange your furniture and drapes so that they don’t block or get in the way of vents, radiators or baseboard heaters.
· This is a good time to get the vacuum cleaner out and clean the heating vents or between the radiator fins.
As I said above, check out our Links and Tips page for more ideas on how to be energy efficient in your unit! That’s all from me for now, but remember, if you have any questions about energy conservation, the Greener Together campaign or anything else in general, be sure to email
